Rolling Stones arrive in Cuba for historic free concert

HAVANA — The Rolling Stones arrived in Cuba’s capital Thursday, on the eve of the rock band’s historic free concert in a country where its music was once silenced.

Mick Jagger offered a brief greeting in Spanish and said he was happy to be on the island.

Cuban state media forecasted that about 500,000 people were to fill Havana’s Ciudad Deportivo sports centre, with music industry magazine Billboard reporting that as many people again could swarm into neighboring streets.

With no tickets on sale, it was impossible to confirm the estimates, but a million fans would amount to one of every 11 Cubans. Read more…
