Noted: New Logo and Packaging for Swiffer done In-house

“In 1999, Swiffer made its debut and soon established itself as both a pioneer in the cleaning systems category and a pop culture icon. Swiffer products have starred on Saturday Night Live, have been featured in Hollywood blockbusters, and have graced the cover of Rolling Stone.” Its signature product is the Swiffer® Sweeper®, “A 2-in-1 hard surface sweeping and mopping tool. The dry cloth has deep ridges and grooves that conform to the surface of your floor to trap and lock dirt, dust and hair, while the wet cloth dissolves dirt and grime and traps it away giving you an amazing clean.”

Opinion/Notes: It’s hard to get excited (design-wise) about a mass consumer product like Swiffer. You know there are going to be swooshes and gradients and drop shadows and all kinds of other mainstream design solutions that make you shiver. Within that realm, the new Swiffer look is not that bad. The logo is a major improvement and other than the wonky “S” and hollow tittle I would say the wordmark (stripped from all its embellishments as shown below) is okay. The packaging is as full of stuff as before but at least it’s more attractive and the pattern band that divides the upper third of the boxes is… nice? This would all matter more if Swiffer’s pads lasted for more than a small room’s worth of mopping.
