'My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2' is a mess, but a lovable one

Families aren’t perfect.
They’re often loud, wrong or embarrassing, supplying your life with an endless amount of drama. But if you’re lucky, they love you, and you love them too. That’s why it’s harder to judge your family and you ultimately take it easier on them when they mess up.
That love can extend to onscreen families, like the Portokalos squad in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, directed by Kirk Jones and written by star Nia Vardalos. Despite the ridiculous amount of subplots, the over-the-top caricature of life in a Greek household and sometimes disjointed scene direction, there’s still something joyous and lovable about this movie family more than a decade after the original.
