India's fastest train Gatimaan Express brings Taj Mahal closer to Delhi

India has launched its first semi-high speed train, the Gatimaan Express. The fastest train in the country, it can reach a maximum speed of 160 km per hour, and will connect Delhi and the tourist hub of Agra, the home of the Taj Mahal.

“The launch of this train heralds a new era of high-speed train travel in India,” an official statement from the Ministry of Railways said.

The new train will run between Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin station and the Agra Cantonment station on all days of the week, except Friday. The duration of the trip will be 100 minutes, about 15 minutes shorter than the current trains between the two cities. It includes eight AC chair car coaches and two executive AC chair cars.
