Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt released from prison after serving time for 1993 Mumbai blasts case

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt walked out of a prison in the western Indian city of Pune today morning after spending 42 months inside. Dutt had been completing the remainder of his five-year jail term in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, in one of the most high-profile celebrity convictions in India.

The 56-year-old actor had been convicted of buying firearms from the bombers who planned a series of 13 blasts in Mumbai in 1993, resulting in the death of 257 people. Dutt had defended his decision as self-defence, by arguing that he needed the weapons to defend his family during the Hindu-Muslim riots. Read more…
