'American Idol' white-guys-with-guitars winners pay tribute to David Bowie

American Idol winners Phillip Phillips, Kris Allen, Nick Fradiani, Lee Dewyze, and David Cook joined together during the show’s series finale on Thursday night for a tribute to David Bowie.
The five performed a medley that included “Starman,” “Rebel Rebel,” and “The Jean Genie.” And if you’re thinking “Hey, it looks like a bunch of white guys with guitars,” that — for better or worse — was completely intentional.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of Thursday’s finale, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said he “put them all together” for a reason.
“There was this little thing that went out in the press called ‘white guys with guitars,’ WGWG. So I put them all together, with their guitars, all doing this incredible Bowie tribute medley,” he said. “And nowhere else can you get five American Idols together in one room. And I promise you, if they went out on tour, and each did 20 minutes in their own right and 20 minutes together, this is a sell-out tour, they’re so good together. The WGWG tour.” Read more…
