Belgians told not to stream music or video to avoid overloading the Internet

The Belgian government is asking its citizens not to stream music and videos in an effort to avoid slowing down the Internet after Tuesday’s attacks at an airport and metro station.

“Please keep the Internet free for communication. Avoid streaming music or video,” reads the notice posted on a Facebook page managed by the prime minister’s office.

A similar request was posted to a Twitter account run by the Belgium Crisis Center.

On its website, the center also asked that Belgians avoid making phone calls if they are not “strictly necessary,” and to “tell friends via social networks or via SMS to avoid saturating the telephone networks.” Read more…
