Apple acquired the security company that found bugs in Mac firmware

Last year, security firm LegbaCore created the first worm that was able to permanently infect Mac computers by embedding itself in firmware — and now the company has been acquired by Apple. The attack, called Thunderstrike 2, exploited a flaw in Thunderbolt to infect Mac firmware without user detection and spread itself to other computers using the option ROM in attached Thunderbolt devices. According to Macrumors, when the company reported the bug to Apple and worked through resolution, it began courting them for acquisition.
