A holistic abortion treats mind, body and heart

As a patient at the San Antonio Whole Woman’s Health clinic walks down the hallway after her abortion, a medical assistant gently guides her by the elbow toward the curtained recovery room.
She sits in one of several leather barcaloungers, under the dimmed lights, drapes a fleece blanket over her lap and sips herbal tea brewed to alleviate cramps and nausea. The clinic started providing the purple blankets and tea to comfort patients.
These are just a few of the many details at Whole Woman’s Health designed to make a woman feel like more than just a patient. Counselors pose open-ended questions and sit beside the patient, not across from her.
