Images can carry stories across the barriers of language, culture, space and time. That’s why photography is one of the best, most accessible mediums to raise awareness around social justice issues
Capturing these topics, and their subjects, is no easy feat, however. Whether they’re documenting domestic life in the suburbs or they’re on the frontlines of international crises, photojournalists amplify stories of people they usually do not know — and can often find themselves in harm’s way.
